The world is marching ahead with Technological Advancements at a tremendous pace. There has been a flood of new innovations across all sectors – especially in the IT and service sectors.  With the onset of Emerging Technologies, World is experiencing a revolution in innovative concepts to shape our future.

As the technological advancement scales new heights, the Competition has transformed into a new dimension. In this scenario, Value add business is the new Jargon to be competitively innovative.

Lean Six Sigma is one of the methodologies where a value stream of cost optimization can be imbibed into any process resulting in effective cost management. This enables Business Enterprises to expand into new horizons with an effective competitive edge.

What is Lean?

LEAN is the elimination of all forms of non-value-added work from the customer perspective in business transactions and processes.

In a typical business process, when the critically evaluated majority of the activities are non-value added.

 

 

 

Lean concepts generally focus on elimination of MUDA  - Japanese terminology for Non-Value Added ( NAV) Wastes.  In the Manufacturing Sector, there are 7 NAV’s and  Services and IT sector follows Eight Muda as follows:

What is Six Sigma?

SIX SIGMA is a Statistical Based Methodology used to reduce Variation & Eliminate Defects in business transactions and processes.

The variation is the range of difference between the Statistical Mean and all data points that are used to calculate the Mean. Defects in the ProcessProcess VariationSix Sigma is a Process Improvement Tool.  It focuses on the reduction of process variation through a systematic data-based approach. The methodology involves statistical techniques to identify the root causes and its reduction. Two key terminologies are critical in any process.

For Example: 

The Defect is a measurable product or service characteristic that does not meet a clearly defined customer specific requirement. In Six Sigma, defects are measured by evaluating the DPU (Defects per unit) and DPMO (Defects per Million Opportunity). If the process has to be at a level of 6 Sigma, then then it has to be 99.997% accurate.

 

 

What is Lean Six Sigma:

LEAN SIX SIGMA is a Management concept Used to Effectively Improve Business Processes based on the combination of the different tools of LEAN and SIX SIGMA.

The key LEAN tool is VALUE STREAM MAPPING and the key methodology of SIX SIGMA is the DMAIC approach.
